[Note: You can create any website, including a travel blog, with Dorik in just 4 steps. However, to perfectly optimize and personalize your travel blog, follow all the steps we discuss here.]
Let’s now read about each section in detail.
1. Choose Your Travel Blog Niche
First, you need to narrow down your travel blog niche. For your information, the travel niche is quite saturated, and it is challenging to grow a travel blog if you don’t pick up the right niche and follow practical strategies from the get-go.
Hence, when starting out, don’t fall into the trap of writing everything related to traveling on your new travel blog. Instead, write about a particular part of traveling that you love and consider yourself an expert in that specific area.
It could be adventure traveling, solo traveling, fashion traveling, budget traveling, and the list goes on. Hence, go with one travel blog niche that draws you in.
2. Pick Your Travel Blog Name
Once you’ve chosen your travel blog niche, it’s time to align that niche with a perfect travel blog name. While choosing your blog name, here are the criteria to remember.
-
Pick a short and memorable name that reflects your travel niche
-
Avoid using numbers and hyphens in the name
-
Avoid using overused words such as Nomad, Vagabond, Junkie, Wanderer, etc.
-
Use blog name generators to speed up the process
-
Get creative and play with unique word combinations and styles
3. Secure Your Domain and Select a Hosting Platform
Once you pick a name for your travel blog, you need to see if its domain is available online. In case you need to know about the domain. Here you go: A domain is a human-readable address for a website. It’s like a postal address for the internet, helping searchers to find a particular website.
If you find the domain on a popular domain registrar like Namecheap, you need to check its previous registration history and spam score.
Also, check if your chosen domain infringes any trademark and if it is available on social media platforms for future branding purposes. Alongside these, ensure the following factors:
-
Ensure your domain directly relates to your travel blog's theme or niche
-
Include relevant keywords that potential readers might search for
-
Keep your domain name short, easy to remember, write, and pronounce
-
Avoid putting complex words, hyphens, or numbers in the domain
-
Go with the appropriate domain extension, such as .com, .org, .net, etc.
-
Consider the domain name registration costs and renewal fees
After ensuring these facts, register your domain with an excellent domain registrar. Later, find the perfect hosting platform to connect your domain. If you don’t know what hosting is, let me tell you.
It’s a server (a powerful computer) that stores your website’s data, including code and media files, and makes those files accessible on the internet.
So, to keep your travel blog up and running, you need to choose the best hosting provider with unlimited bandwidth and storage. Besides these two factors, keep the criteria below in mind while searching for a host.
-
Look for a provider with a high uptime guarantee of at least 99.9%
-
Choose a provider with servers located in regions close to your target audience
-
Consider a provider that offers CDN services
-
Ensure the hosting plan provides sufficient storage for your blog's content, including images, videos, and other media files
-
Make sure the provider offers excellent website security protection, such as malware scanning and protection, etc.
-
Your hosting provider should provide SSL certificates
-
It needs to guarantee automatic and regular backups
-
Choose a host that comes with an easy-to-use user interface
-
Consider any additional features, such as free domain registration and migration, website builders, or marketing tools
-
Look for a provider with 24/7 customer support
-
Check existing customer reviews and compare pricing before selecting a host
Once you ensure that a provider confirms all or at least the significant factors mentioned above, you can purchase it and connect a domain. Luckily, I won’t have to deal with all these hassles since I’ll use a website builder that features integrated hosting.
So, what builder will I use for the rest of the tutorial? I’ll reveal it in a moment. Until then, keep on reading, folks.
4. Choose a Website Builder for Your Travel Blog
At this stage, you need to select a website builder. You’ll find many builders on the market, each with diverse features and benefits.
As a result, you may need clarification thinking about which one to pick. Well, you can end this confusion by considering the criteria mentioned below.
-
Look for a builder with a simple interface (a drag-and-drop interface is the best)
-
The builder should be easy to navigate
-
Choose a builder that offers templates specifically designed for travel blogs
-
Ensure the site builder offers customization flexibility
-
The builder should have robust features for creating and managing blog posts
-
Look for a builder that allows you to easily embed images, videos, and other media into your posts
-
Consider a builder that offers built-in SEO tools
-
Ensure the builder helps you create responsive websites
-
Choose a website builder that guarantees excellent customer support
-
Check if the builder has an active community of users and learning resources
-
Inspect existing customer reviews
-
Finally, compare the pricing plans with other website builders
Then, select the website builder and start creating your travel blog. Given the criteria mentioned above, I found Dorik AI promising. Essentially, this no-code AI website builder offers more than I’ve mentioned here.
Its blog features are amazing. For example, you can easily write blog posts using its powerful editor. You can implement all the on-page SEO strategies using its built-in SEO tools. You can import blog posts from other sources hassle-free.
You’ll fall in love with this magical tool once you build a travel blog in minutes! Hence, let’s create.
5. Build a Travel Blog
Before proceeding further, I want to inform you that Dorik AI lets you create two site types: CMS and Static.
A CMS website offers more functionalities and control over your site, while a Static website is suitable for people who just need a landing page or a portfolio. Hence, choose a type that meets your needs.
Another thing I want to mention is that this site builder allows you to create any site by following three website-creating techniques: Build with AI, Build with a Template, and Start from Scratch.
I will show you these three techniques in this article. Let’s get going.
Create a Travel Blog with AI
To build a travel site with AI, you can adhere to these steps:
1. Sign up with Dorik if you haven’t created an account
2. Head to Sites > CMS
3. Hit “Create New Site With AI” button.
4. Right now, type your travel blog name in the “Name of Your Website” field in the pop-up.
5. Afterward, type a well-structured prompt to build your travel blog.
6. Select your travel blog language.
7. Finally, click “Generate Your Website” button.
Now, wait a moment. Boom! Your travel blog is created. If you don’t like the design, you can always change the entire page or a specific section of a page. Let’s now check out how our blog looks.
Here’s the prompt I used to create this site:
I am a traveler and want to share my travel stories, tips, and hacks through a blog. Now, please build me a simple yet attractive travel blog that I use to inspire others to travel.
You can edit one or all sections of your desired web page and add containers and elements using Dorik’s drag-and-drop interface.
Besides this, you’ll be able to write landing page copies or complete other writing tasks with the AI Text Generator. This website builder lets you generate images and illustrations using the AI Image Generator.
Don’t worry. It’s not as difficult as it may sound. As promised, I’ll explain everything you need to customize your travel website in the later segments. But before that, let’s look at the other website creation techniques.
Make Your Travel Blog with a Template
Adhere to these steps to create a website with a template on Dorik
1. Sign in to your account and navigate to Sites.
2. Choose your site type: CMS or Static.
3. Tap into “+ Create New Site” button.
4. You can now type in ‘Blog’ in the template search field or click the ‘Blog’ category on the left-side panel.
5. At this stage, choose a template. I recommend you select Travelstory as it’s ideal for creating a travel blog. Then, hit “Create New Site” button.
6. Now, type your travel blog name in the “Site Name” field in the pop-up.
7. Put your domain in the ‘Domain’ field in the pop-up.
Note: It’s a subdomain. You can add a custom domain, though. I’ll guide you on how to add a custom domain later in this article.
8. Lastly, click the ‘Create’ button.
Now, wait a while, and your chosen template will be installed. You can customize this template as you wish, following the customization guidelines provided in the later segments.
Build Your Travel Blog from Scratch
This is the last technique to follow when creating a site with Dorik AI. Here are all the steps associated with this site-creation technique.
1. Log in to your Dorik account and navigate to Sites.
2. Choose your site type: CMS or Static.
3. Hit “+ Create New Site” button.
4. Click “+ Create From Scratch” button.
5. You’ll see a pop-up with two fields and a button. You need to input your site name and domain in two fields and hit the ‘Create’ button.
You’ll then visit Dorik’s drag-and-drop editor. Familiar yourself with the editor using the provided resources.
To add a new section, click “Add New Section” button.
Use the menus on the left-side panel to edit colors, fonts, and layouts.
Note: You can use these menus for further customizations, such as creating a new page, adding components, including media files, and more. And the best part is that you can utilize these menus irrespective of the method you choose to build your website.
Once you are happy with your design, check your site responsiveness using the device-responsiveness icons on the top.
Lastly, use the ‘Save’ button once you’re done with customization, and then click the ‘Preview’ button to see how your website looks in real-time.
If you are happy with the design, click the ‘Publish’ button to make your site live.
Use this editor to its full potential and create your beautiful, professional, and traveler-catching website.
6. Customize Your Travel Blog
You’ve built your website using one of the three methods I’ve shown above. Now is the time to give the site your personal touch. How?
You can edit some web page sections, add new features, remove AI-generated images, rewrite landing page copies, include a few more custom images, etc.
That said, I’ll now show you the primary customization that will benefit you while building your travel blog. Let’s get started.
Add a Logo
The first thing you’ll do while designing your website is add a logo. A logo is a visual representation of your blog. It’s a symbol, wordmark, or lettermark that stays in people's minds once they visit your travel blog.
Therefore, use a high-quality logo that your targeted audience will remember for an extended duration. If you are thinking of where to get a logo, you have a couple of options.
You can hire a professional logo designer from freelance marketplaces like Fiverr, Freelancers, Upwork, etc. But for that, you need to have a good budget. How much money you’ll spend on a logo depends on varied factors.
According to Vistaprint, you’ll spend around $300 to $1,300 for a good logo. If you know graphic design, you can create a logo for $0 using Canva, Illustrator, or any other logo maker.
You can even use Dorik’s AI Image Generator to build your desired logo.
Set up the Navigation
Now, pay attention to the navigation. Setting up the navigation correctly is crucial as it helps users quickly find what they seek.
For example, you can insert links to header menus and rework other interactive elements, such as changing the button color, extending the search bar, etc.
Customize the Colors and Fonts
After working on the navigation, work on the colors and fonts of specific web page elements. If you use the Dorik AI to build your blog, you won’t have to think about this design aspect.
Why? Dorik AI follows the latest website design principles that are accepted and followed worldwide when designing your site.
Still, if you don’t like the design, particularly typography and colors, you can always change them using the AI Quick Style feature.
Add Social Media Buttons
It’ll be better to share links to your business profiles on diverse social media platforms on your travel blog. Doing so will help you get your target audience to follow you on those social media platforms.
Hence, to do so, add social media buttons on the footer section of your website. If you use Dorik AI, you can do it effortlessly. Here’s how.
1. Go to your site dashboard.
2. Navigate to where you want to add social media buttons.
3. Click “Add New Section.”
4. Afterward, choose a container.
5. Now, tap into the ‘+’ button on a container to add an element.
6. Choose the “Social Icon” element.
7. Finally, insert links to your social media profiles using the moveable element editing panel.
That’s how you can add social media buttons on any page section using the Dorik editor.
Add a Newsletter Sign-up Form
Adding a newsletter sign-up form to your travel blog can benefit you immensely. Imagine you want to run a newsletter business as a side hustle besides operating your travel blog. You want to send exclusive content and travel-related hacks to your premium subscribers.
In this case, you can include a newsletter sign-up form on your website. Here’s how you can add this feature using Dorik AI.
1. Visit your site dashboard.
2. Head to a section where you want to add the form.
3. Go to the left-side panel and click ‘Components’ menu.
4. Then, hit the ‘Library’ tab.
5. Now, click “Subscription forms.”
6. Choose a form and drag and drop it into your chosen section.
Finally, customize that form as you wish.
7. Set up Necessary Pages, Sections, and Features
A professional travel blog should feature some essential pages and other elements. That said, I'll now elaborate on those pages and features one by one to help you make a professional travel blog.
Before discussing which pages and features your travel blog should have, let’s show you how to create a page with Dorik. Let’s first create manually.
1. Go to your site dashboard.
2. Navigate to the left-side panel and click ‘Pages’ menu.
3. Now, click the ‘+’ icon.
4. You’ll see a page titled ‘Untitled,’ which will automatically be created. You need to rename the page. To do that, hover the mouse over the page name, you’ll notice vertically placed three dots - click on it.
5. Afterward, select the “Update Slug & Name” option.
6. Finally, type your page name and slug in the pop-up and hit the ‘Save’ button.
Then, start building the page from scratch using Dorik’s drag-and-drop editor. Once you’re done creating a page, don’t forget to publish it and link it to the homepage. Here’s how to link a page to another page.
1. Click the ‘Pages’ menu on the left-side panel and choose a page that you want to use to add a page link.
2. Head to the navbar and click an item where you’ll insert the link to the page you’ve just created.
3. Once you click on an item, a moveable editing panel with three tabs, General, Styles, and Advanced, will appear. Click ‘Links’ under the General tab.
4. Click on a navbar menu that will feature the link to your created page.
5. Choose the ‘Link Type’ as ‘Page.’
6. Finally, select the page you’ve just created.
That’s how you include a page on any other page.
Okay, I’ve shown you how to create a page manually and include it on any page, precisely on the homepage. Let’s now see how to create a page with AI. It’s effortless.
1. Click on ‘Pages’ on the left-side panel.
2. Hit the three-star icon.
3. You’ll notice a pop-up. Keep the “Page Type” ‘Custom,’ write your page prompt in the “Additional Instruction (Optional)” field, and click the “Generate Page” button.
Now, wait a while until the page is created. Once the AI builds the page, you can update the page slug and name and include it on any other page. I skip showing this part as I’ve already shown you. Instead, let’s read what pages you must create for your travel blog.
Homepage: A homepage is the front view of your website. Visitors see it first when they directly visit your site. Therefore, cautiously design it. You can add a warm welcome note to the homepage.
You can build an additional section on this page to embed your travel blog or create an image gallery to display your exhilarating travel photos. Suppose you want to display your travel post on the homepage. In this case, you can do that using Dorik’s custom collection feature. Here’s how.
1. Go to the site dashboard.
2. Head to the left-side panel and click ‘Collections’ menu.
3. Then, hit the “+ Add New.”
4. You’ll now see a pop-up. In this pop-up, keep the ‘Collection Type’ field ‘None,’ write your collection name in the “Singular Name” field, choose the “Editing Layout” as “Full Editor,” and finally, click the “Add Collection” button to create a collection.
I know you may have many questions about this collection feature. You’ll get virtually all the answers to your questions if you read this guide on how to use dorik collections.
Now, get back to displaying the collection. Once you create and publish a few blogs under the Blog collection, click the ‘Builder’ menu on the left-side panel to go to the editor.
Then, navigate to your chosen area on the homepage and click the “Add New Section” button.
Now, click the “CMS Row with Columns” option.
After that, choose your preferred container.
Now, hit the “Connect to Database” button.
You’ll then see a moveable editing panel. You need to now select your collection (Blog) under the Configurations option.
That’s how you show blogs on the homepage using the collection feature. Alongside this, you can include a contact form on the homepage. Additionally, you can add a newsletter sign-up form to keep your targeted audience in the loop about your traveling.
These are just a few ideas to implement to create an attractive homepage. You can brainstorm your own ideas and make a homepage that visitors love.
Blog: As a travel blogger, you must have a blog page on your website. This page helps you draw the attention of others and lets you grow your site organically.
However, to gain traffic free of cost, you should implement the latest SEO strategies on your blog page and entire website. Hence, given the benefits, create a dedicated blog page to share remarkable travel stories, tips, and hacks (or anything travel-related).
Blog Category Page: A blog category page is crucial in a travel blog. It encourages readers to explore the blog more by showing them a curated list of posts under their area of interest. This can increase page views and the time users spend on the site.
Besides, category pages can boost search engine optimization (SEO) by grouping related posts under keywords that align with user intent. Well-structured category pages can rank higher in search results. Hence, create blog category pages for your own benefit.
About Us: Alongside building a blog page, you can create an About Us page to help readers know about you. This page works incredibly well in building trust among your audience.
So, carefully build it and take inspiration from other excellent About Us page examples before you create your own.
Contact Us: Imagine that a few travelers want to go on an epic adventure with you. Or, they want to share their travel stories with you or prefer collaborating with you to grow your travel blog.
In this case, they need to contact you. So, build a contact page to improve communication and engagement with your audience.
Privacy Policy: Readers are more likely to trust your blog if they know what happens with their data. Suppose your blog attracts visitors from the European Union or other regions with strict data protection laws (like California's CCPA).
In that case, you must legally disclose how you collect, use, and store personal data. A privacy policy page helps you comply with these regulations. So, build a privacy policy page and correctly write a privacy policy for your website.
8. Write Your First Blog Post
Okay, you’ve designed your website, built necessary pages, and added other essential features and elements. It’s time to write your first blog. Before starting to write your first blog, here are some factors you need to consider.
Conduct Keyword Research: First, find out keywords/keyphrases related to your travel blog that you want to rank for on search engines. Learn keyword research, use some popular keyword research tools, and seek keywords. Then, create a content calendar.
Choose a Compelling Title: Select a title that grabs attention and gives a hint about the destination or the experience you’re sharing.
Create an Engaging Introduction: Draw readers in with a personal story, a question, or an interesting fact about the destination. This sets the tone and hooks the audience.
Be Descriptive: Use sensory details to bring your experience to life. Describe the sights, sounds, smells, and feelings you encountered. This helps transport readers to the place you’re writing about.
Share Personal Experiences: Make your blog post unique by adding your personal reflections and experiences. Share what made the trip special or any challenges you faced and how you overcame them.
Include High-quality Images: Visuals enhance the story and give readers a clearer sense of the destination. Use your own photos or relevant visuals to complement the text.
Maintain an Organized Structure: Break the post into sections with clear headings. This makes it easy to follow and digest, especially for readers scanning for specific information.
Keep Your Audience in Mind: Create content based on who your readers are. Are they adventure seekers, budget travelers, or families? This will guide the style and depth of information you provide.
Proofread and Edit: Ensure your post is free of grammatical errors and typos. A well-polished post is more professional and easier to read.
Finally, publish your first blog. If you need help regarding how to utilize Dorik for writing a post, you can read this guide on how to use Dorik CMS for blogging.
9. Publish Your Travel Blog
Once you have built your website and the necessary pages and sections and added features and elements, review your site at least twice by yourself or your friends and family.
Additionally, you can get experts (successful travel bloggers) to review your website. Finally, hit the ‘Publish’ button to publish your site. Also, don’t forget to add a custom domain before publishing your travel blog.
