In this blog, I'll show you how to create a teacher website and use it to easily share learning materials and teach a large group of students at once.

So buckle up for the exciting ride ahead.

Steps on How to Create a Teacher Website

This guided ride will cover all the necessary steps to create a website to boost your teaching career. Sit back, relax, and read the steps thoroughly to understand the whole process.

Select Your Domain Name

Selecting a domain name is a good starting point for every website creation journey, as it is fun, and you will instantly get hooked on the project. There are two stops at the domain selection point.

Choose a Domain Name

Between the two parts of selecting a domain name, choosing the name requires a bit of time and brainstorming. Your domain name should reflect your identity as a teacher. It could be your name, a combination of your name and your subject, or something that embodies your teaching philosophy.

Take some time on this step, as it is an important one. You can also read our guide on choosing a perfect domain name to get some ideas.

Buy the Domain Name

To buy a domain name, you can visit any domain registrar website like GoDaddyNamecheap, etc., to check the domain name's availability and buy it.

Choosing a website builder

Choosing the perfect website builder can be daunting, and that's where I come in to put your mind at peace. You can check our list of the best website builders available to know your options.

When looking for a website builder to create a teacher website, here are some features to consider:

Customization Options

Mobile Responsiveness

Make sure the website builder you choose has mobile-responsive design options so anyone can view your website on any device.

Easy to Use

Look for a website builder that is intuitive and user-friendly, even for those without technical skills. It would be best to look for beginner-friendly website builders with pre-built templates to save time and effort.

SEO Optimization

Choose a website builder that allows for proper SEO optimization, including the ability to add meta titles and descriptions to each page.

Security features

Choose a website builder that provides security features like SSL encryption and regular backups to protect your site from potential security breaches.

Scalability

Consider a website builder that allows for scalability as your audience grows so you can add new features and functionalities as needed.

Now that you know what features to look for to create a teacher site, let me introduce Dorik, a no-code website builder that offers them all. On top of that, Dorik provides some extra features that can benefit you.

Designing the Website Using Dorik

Now, let's focus on the design and development process of your website with Dorik. I'll break it down step by step. Just follow my instructions, and at the end of this guide, you'll have a website ready to publish.

I have created countless websites with Dorik so the tips I am going to share are from my experience. This is the easiest way to create a website without coding.

Step 1

Visit Dorik and click the "Try it Free" button to get started without registration. You can try this option if you want to explore the website builder. But if you wish to publish your site or keep it saved to customize later, you must Sign Up to Dorik. I recommend taking the sign-up route, as it will unlock many features.

dorik homepage

Once you sign up, you will land on the Dorik Dashboard. There, you can manage all your projects and control your website settings. If you want to create a static site with only text and images, you can create a new website from the Static option.

But if you plan to publish blogs, you can click on CMS in the dashboard and click on "Create New Site". Here, CMS means Content Management System if you didn't already know. The process will be similar. With CMS, you'll have a dedicated dashboard to manage blog posts easily.

It would be best to use the CMS option for a teacher website, as it offers all the required functionalities and more.

Step 2

Let's say you click on "Create New Site," which will take you to your starting point, where you will see a list of templates you can select for your website and start customizing it as per your need.

Besides that, you can also start from scratch, where you have to design everything by yourself. I am ignoring that route and choosing a template as I want to show you the easy way using a free pre-made website template. But feel free to explore them if you feel like it.

For this blog, I am selecting the "JB - Business Coach Template." This template has all the sections and pages you will need to create a teacher website pre-built into it.

Step 3

Now that we have our template, it's time to check out the website builder where you will customize your website. But before you can enter the builder, you will see a pop-up form asking you to set a project name for this project and a domain name. Initially, you can set up a domain name to be published as a subdomain of Dorik.

You can connect any custom domain you own to your website later from the CMS Dashboard with a Dorik premium plan, and I'll talk about the "how" part later in this blog.

For now, I'm showing you the demo with a subdomain name as I'm using the free plan of Dorik to build this site.

When you click Create, it will take you to the CMS dashboard. It will be the central hub where you can manage everything related to your site. Check out all the available settings to get a clear idea of what you can do from the dashboard.

To visit the builder, where the magic happens, you need to click on the "Design & Pages" option.

Inside the builder, you can first check out all the available options to familiarize yourself with the interface. You will see options to set the page settings, check the responsiveness, save the progress, publish the website, and many more. Explore them on your own to make yourself familiar with every available option.

You can easily drag, move, edit, and delete existing elements or add new ones to the template. Hover over any block, and the options will become visible. Play around with them to get the hang of it. Change the information and replace it with your personal information to see how it looks.

You'll get the most essential settings in the sidebar of the builder. You can see all the pages of this template and add, remove, and customize them as much as you want. You can add a new page by simply clicking on the "Add New Page" button or copying an existing page and then changing the elements.

You can also easily change the page name to whatever you want by clicking on the arrow on the right corner. You can right-click on any sections of the template to duplicate the elements and styling.

Change the text and image after that. To change images or text, you have to click on them, and a pop-up card will appear with all the settings options.

You can also set some global styles (available in the left sidebar of the builder) that will be applied to all the pages once set.

Besides that, you can also play with the site settings and add multiple integrations to make your website feature-rich and more user-friendly.

You can see this short video on Dorik Builder's basic introduction to learning about the fantastic things you can do inside this builder.

Step 4

Let's assume you made the necessary modifications and customizations to the template and are ready to publish it. Now before you click "Publish," you can preview your site to see if everything looks perfect by clicking the "Eye Icon".

Then, you can click "Publish" to make your site live and see the live version by clicking the upward arrow icon beside the publish button.

Step 5

Let's talk about adding that custom domain now. First, you need to opt-in for a premium plan. Dorik offers very budget-friendly plans. After purchasing a plan, go to the dashboard.

You can add a custom domain by clicking the custom domain option that you will see on the left sidebar. To own a custom domain, you can buy one from a domain registrar like Namecheap or GoDaddy.

Visit other teachers’ websites and see what they are doing to make their website visually appealing. Try to include those sections or elements in your site. Dorik has a healthy collection of UI blocks and elements, so you'll find whatever you need.

Marketing and Promoting the Website

As you are creating a teacher site, it's not mandatory to promote it. But it does feel nice when more and more students visit your site, right? That's why you can do some publicity, nothing too rigorous.

Get it Visible on Google Search

The first thing you can do when you have a site is to make sure it is visible when someone searches for it on Google. Following some best practices, you can easily make your website visible on Google search.

Social Media Promotion

You already have a social media presence; use it to put the words out there. Tell your friends and followers about your teaching services. Invite them to visit your site. Consider writing short posts on your expertise in the subject matter.
